Ferguson protesters block I-44 downtown

By Brandie Piper

ST. LOUIS – Hundreds of protesters walked onto Interstate 44 in downtown St. Louis, blocking traffic Tuesday afternoon.

The demonstrators started their protest around 12 p.m. at Kiener Plaza before marching to the Thomas F. Eagleton Federal Courthouse on 10th Street.

Shortly after 2 p.m. the protesters walked onto the highway near the Edward Jones Dome, blocking all lanes.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department says the protesters threw objects at officers.

This stretch of the interstate was re-named I-44 after the new I-70 bridge opened.

The highway reopened a short time later.
